I just found this scrap of paper and thought I would quickly post this for future exploration.  I read this on a plaque at the Ecotarium in Worcester, MA: “burning oxygen supplied 18 times the energy formerly gleaned from fermenting a sugar molecule” from Lynn Margulis, Symbiosis in Cell Evolution.
